Our firm’s involvement in education infrastructure encompasses nursery/primary schools, secondary schools, libraries, laboratories and buildings for polytechnic, tertiary, vocational and university education. Our Sierra Leone operation has single handedly designed rehabilitation projects of note as part of the post-war agenda of aggressively compensating for lost grounds in the education infrastructure sector. We have also provided professional services for education sector projects funded by the African Development Bank, World Bank, Government of Sierra Leone, Government of Delta State, Nigeria, European Union and the Islamic Development Bank respectively. We recently completed a US$30million upgrade of the infrastructure of sub-Sahara Africa’s oldest University: Fourah Bay College of the University of Sierra Leone. City centre developments and office buildings both constitute important sectors of our portfolio of projects. Our design outcomes are usually informed by the existing urban milieus, budget, energy conservation and desired functional performance of the buildings and facilities. Not unexpectedly, exorbitant land values in most CBDs (Central Business Districts) have often dictated the recourse to the vertical concept of development.
Most of our urban schemes often reflect the qualities of commanding identity, flexibility and efficiency central to the conceptualization of most authentic CBD-based offices and mixed developments. The brief for every Health sector project is exhaustively digested and authentic solutions proffered in keeping with the dictates of required functional adjacencies, envisioned work flow of medical personnel equipment layouts and available budget. We have been consulted by the Government of Sierra Leone and Nigeria respectively on health sector infrastructure for both primary and referral facilities. We have also rendered services to UNDP, UNHCR, UNICEF on health sector space solutions. Our Sierra Leone office recently designed: Tertiary Health Facilities at Lumley, Waterloo and Macauley Street in Freetown. We are currently completing designs for Sierra Leone’s first privately owned Cancer Hospital and a $150m Saudi- funded Teaching Hospital for Kerry Town Sierra Leone. We are also currently concluding the project management of 8nr Primary Health Care Units in all the province of Sierra Leone. Our Sierra Leone office was responsible for the master plan, infrastructure layout and design of the prison facilities of the UN War Crimes Tribunal known as the Sierra Leone Special Court (West Africa’s first and only so far) in Freetown, Sierra Leone. In collaboration with Norman and Dawbarn UK we also participated in the delivery of the Main Court Chambers of the UN Special Court Complex. In 2003/2004 our Nigerian office prepared conceptual and detail designs for a broad range of judicial buildings which included 3Nr prototype High Courts, Magistrate Courts, Customary Court of Appeal Complex in Asaba and the Ultra-modern High Court Complex for Warri. We also recently articulated a proposal for a 12-floor court complex for the Judiciary of Sierra Leone.
We are committed to developing projects that rest heavily on function, form, and, most importantly, durability.
We have considerable experience in the design, fitting and project management of sports and recreation infrastructure. In 1999, we were engaged by the global soccer regulatory world body (FIFA-Switzerland) as Architectural and Engineering consultants for the Sierra Leone Football Academy at Kingtom, Freetown. In 2006, we were commissioned to design an ultra modern sports complex for the Delta State University at Abraka, Nigeria. We have also prepared schemes for indoor sports facilities for other state governments in Nigeria. We have also prepared preliminary design proposals for prototype mini-stadia to be located in provincial headquarter towns under the Youth Empowerment Programme of the Sierra Leone government. Our portfolio of designed/completed projects in this sector include lawn tennis courts, swimming pools, squash courts, gymnasium and an assortment of children play grounds. We have won a number of commissions to design and manage the construction of hotels and a broad spectrum of tourism-based developments. For years, our Freetown office has served on an advisory capacity to the National Tourist Board of Sierra Leone vide its membership of its Technical Committee. At one time or the other, we have served as consultants to such key Sierra Leonean Hotels as the Bintumani Hotel, Country Lodge Hotel, Radisson Blu Hotel, MJ Motels and Brookfields Hotel in Freetown. In Nigeria, our notable hotel and recreational projects are; Luxury Suites for Cowrey Hotels in Calabar, Cross River State, a recent proposal for Pinnacle Hotels at Ekpan (near Warri), Delta State , Multiplex Recreational Park Design for Asokoro, Abuja (FCT.), Warri Bridge Project and Warri Water Park for Delta State Government. We have also provided designs for dozens of beach taverns, restaurants, night clubs and bars in Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Guinea respectively. We have successfully derived solutions to several head office and branch outlet buildings for a number of financial institutions in West Africa. We were commissioned by GTBank Nigeria Headquarters to handle the reconstruction of their flagship outlet in Wilberforce Street Freetown, Sierra Leone and the bank’s first Liberian outlet in 2009. At the end of the Sierra Leone civil war, our Sierra Leonean operation provided design solutions to over seventy percent of the country’s registered commercial banks.
Some of our banking sector projects that have been built include Union Trust Bank Ltd., Howe Street Freetown, Sierra Leone Commercial Headquarter Extension at George Street in Freetown and branches in Bo, Kono, Makeni, Port Loko and Liverpool Street, Freetown, GTBank, Access Bank, Keystone Bank and FBN Bank Head Offices were either designed or redesigned by our firm. Our company had also served as retainer consultants to Sierra Leone’s apex bank (the Bank of Sierra Leone) on its Staff Pensions Scheme in 1996.
In late 2003, the Standard Chartered Bank group in Sierra Leone engaged our services as project consultants for its first comprehensive refurbishment programme. We also serve as retainer consultants to Reliance Insurance Trust Corporation of Sierra Leone. In 2005 we were appointed as overall consultants for Guaranty Trust Bank’s outlet in the regional headquarter town of Bo, Southern, Sierra Leone Designing religious buildings demand a rational synthesis of the specific principles of worship and activity- sequence of end-users.
